With summer in full-swing, many Brits will be planning on hosting a BBQ to make the most of the weather.
To help you get the most bang for your buck, our researchers at Alternix, investigated the prices of key ingredients at nine leading supermarkets.
The items included in the BBQ essentials costings were:

Key findings from the study include:
● Aldi is the cheapest supermarket for BBQ essentials (at £2.19 per head), beating Tesco by 13p.
● M&S is the most expensive supermarket, coming in at 99p more per head than the next supermarket (Morrisons) and almost double Aldi.
● Interestingly, Sainsbury's and Waitrose are the exact same price for BBQ essentials.
● Quarter pounder beef burgers were the costliest item on the shopping list, so if you’re looking to reduce costs further, sausages are a great option to serve your guests.
The findings concluded that Aldi is the best place to shop if you’re looking to host a BBQ this summer. At only £2.19 a head, you can serve up a beef burger and a hot dog with garnishes and condiments for your attendees.
Also ranking in the top three supermarkets were Tesco and Asda where you can get the bundle of ingredients, which serves four people, for under a tenner.
Coming in as the most expensive this year is M&S, at nearly twice the cost of ingredients at savvy-spender favourite, Aldi.

Methodology
Ingredients based on serving four people one beef burger and one hot dog bun containing two sausages each. Price per head calculated by dividing costings by four and then rounding to the nearest penny. All ingredients sourced were the cheapest available at each supermarket. Prices were collated online on the 22-23rd July, with Lidl prices sourced in store on 23rd July at the Standish store, Wigan, WN6 0JF. The price of quarter pounders were sourced from the Lidl website.
Prices are reflective of shopping without a loyalty card; nearly all of the respective products, across the supermarkets, did not offer a loyalty card discount for these items. Two items are currently on offer, across the supermarkets, and have been honoured in the pricing calculations.
Please note three substitutions were used: M&S ketchup with reduced sugar (as a standard ketchup was not available on Ocado), 6 pack of finger rolls at Lidl are brioche (these were the only available 6 pack of finger rolls), and the Sainsbury’s quarter pounders are a seasoned version to allow for uniform quantity and weightings of products selected (4 pack with a weight of 454g).
